2. M2M One Bill Analysis – Tools & Tips

M2M One automatically apply volume based discounts to all customers based on the amount of active services on a single plan at the end of calendar month – For example if you have 100 Active SIMs on the 3MB Group plan at the end of the month, you would automatically pay $4.19 instead of our standard $4.65.

To maximize your utilization and invoicing with M2M One we recommend, trying to keep as much consistency in your plans as possible, rather than having customers with 3MB, 5MB & 10MB CAP plans, you might find some benefit putting every single customer on a 5MB group plan and aggregating the data across your entire SIM fleet.

TIP – In the M2M One Control Centre you can use the “Billing” tab to look at your cumulative usage for previous billing months. To see if you would get better value using a group plan, you can simply divide the “Data Volume” column by “Services” this gives you an accurate average usage per device.

Please note: The “Total Charge” Column does not represent your spend with M2M One as it doesn’t incorporate discounts or credits applied on your M2M Invoice

If you need any support on looking at your data usage, spend or general control centre support contact M2M One at any time

If you have any questions regarding setting up alerts on the M2M Control Centre, or anything else please don’t hesitate to contact our support team on +61 3 9696 3011 or at support@m2mone.com.au

2. Notification – Optus 2G 900MHz Shutdown

In a recent announcement Optus have confirmed that they will be following Telstra in shutting down their 2G/GSM (900MHz) network on April 1st 2017.

While this does not affect M2M One customers as we exclusively utilize the Telstra M2M network it is important to understand that this reflects a continuing trend of 2G networks being shut down and re-farmed for additional 4G/LTE network capacity with AT&T in the US, Telstra & Optus in Australia and Singtel in Singapore.

We strongly advocate companies building or deploying 2G devices in the Australian market to look at options for 3G or 4G/LTE as soon as possible to make sure you have solutions tested and ready to deploy well before the networks get shut down.

If you have any questions on 2G Migration or around M2M network services on 3G or 4G/LTE please contact M2M One on +61 3 9696 3011 or support@m2mone.com.au and we will point you in the right direction.

3. Blog – M2M Tips – Deploying Cellular M2M or IoT Devices in Australia

Continuing the series of tips to developers looking to get into the M2M/IoT space, this second installment offers an overview of the local marketplace to businesses, developers and distributors who are looking to build or import a M2M/IoT solution for use in Australia.

Our blog looks at the unique demands in terms of geography and coverage of Australia and the changing face of M2M and IoT customers as globalisation opens up local and International markets.

We look at local mobile operators in terms of the nation’s coverage and the 2G, 3G & LTE operating frequencies used by each. Tips on roaming SIMS, hardware approvals and IP addressing help customers and developers unfamiliar with the Australian market to understand the local M2M and IoT space.

Australia is well known for expensive data and higher operational costs compared to other countries, this is an incentive for current and prospective businesses looking to enter the market to manage data efficiently and minimize costs.

2. Blog – M2M Tips – Public IP vs Private IP – Addressing for M2M/IoT Devices

Part of a series of tips to developers looking to get into the M2M/IoT space, this first blog looks at IP address allocation for M2M/IoT devices.

Our blog looks at the costs and implications of the following options:

Public Internet Access via NAT with dynamic private addressing which utilizes common carrier APNs. The IP address of the SIM is hidden behind the networks firewall so the device can’t be addressed directly across the public internet, which means all devices with this setup need to initiate a communication session with the host service/client.

Public Internet Access with dynamic public IP is a popular solution that also uses the public Internet over a common APN but allocating a publicly addressable IP address instead that usually changes with each new session.

Private Static IP Addressing uses completely static addressable IPs from an IP range on a private APN allowing devices to be given their own unchanging IP address that is extremely secure. Methods of getting in to the private IP space are via a VPN tunnel or by using a centrally allocated router configured on that IP space to talk to all other devices in the field.

4. News – ATrack and M2M One collaboration

ATrack and M2M One collaborate to provide 3G services to telematics and tracking customers throughout Australia.

M2M One recently announced a new partnership with leading Taiwanese hardware manufacturer ATrack Technology Inc. ATrack is one of the first round of companies to be part of M2M One’s new partnership program. The program is focused on creating a network of hardware, software and solution providers that can help new entrants into the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) space develop and grow their business quickly.
ATrack & M2M One are collaborating to support businesses in Australia that are adopting 3G hardware to benefit from the larger coverage area and higher throughput. These benefits coupled with the uncertain future of 2G networks and the shut down of Telstra’s 2G network on December 1st 2016 have driven companies to push their migration from 2G telematics devices to 3G quicker than anticipated.

The ultilization of ATrack’s complete product line of quality 3G devices is simplified by M2M One services
by providing complete access to the 3G network and a suite of management and diagnostic tools for companies to manage their fleet of M2M SIM Cards.
